This marvelous painting shows the great symbols of Russia coming to Our Lord Jesus Christ in the depths of the Russian winter. Behind Him are the founders of monasticism, SS Anthony and Theodore of the Caves Monastery in Kiev. At his feet and coming to Him are all those in need: hungry, abandoned, elderly, sick. In this Lenten season, may we strive to be people of prayer who bring Christ’s graces to others, and may we be people of prayer. Without prayer, true self-giving kenotic prayer and love, all social justice programs will fail.
