NEWS ALERT – THE HOLY SEE HAS POSTPONED THE DELEGATION’S DEPARTURE FOR UNSPECIFIED REASONS. READ ORIGINAL POST BELOW.
Synods of Bishops usually produce big documents that time to read and then the Pope decides what to implement. This Synod has been different, first for emphasizing the need to re-evangelize the baptized Catholics and second, for this dramatic step. Some of the most respected Cardinals of the Catholic Church have embarked on a dangerous quest: to get to meet with Assad and see how the carnage can either end or at least be relieved for humanitarian aid, and to reach the Christian Churches of Syria, which are under tremendous stress.
The Holy See desperately wants the ancient Churches of Syria to survive, in place, and contributing to public life. There are families around Antioch region who claim a direct descent from the family of Saint Peter!!
